Description
We are offering for your consideration a lovely, XL, silver plated Spirit or Tilt Kettle manufactured by the Elkington & Company of Birmingham, England. The company was founded in 1815, and registered many patents trying to find a process to bond metals together. One patent was registered for a process named electro-plating which is a method of gilding base metals together. They are therefore credited with the invention of silver plating as it is used today. The mark and the date letter M denote the piece was manufactured in 1873. The piece measures 15 inches high with the kettle on the stand. Standing alone the kettle measures 11 inches high and 10 inches wide from handle to spout. A ribbed design decorates the kettle which has a movable handle. The base has ornately decorated feet and holds the original burner. The piece holds 16, eight ounce cups to the top of the rim. Two pegs with chain are attached to the base and fit into a corresponding section of the kettle to hold it in place. To pour one would remove the back peg and tilt the kettle forward. A striking piece with that will definitely impress when used. The Spirit/ Tilt Kettle is inEXCELLENT READY TO USE
ESTATE CONDITION.
There is no silver wear, dents or scratching. The inside is clean and free of rust. There is possibly an old repair on one of the bases apparatus that holds in the burner but it has been professionally executed and hardly noticeable.
