You are buying an antique mangle board, handmade and used by Ukrainian farmers in the 1800s-1900s. This old household tool was hand carved out of one solid piece of wood, quite heavy and measures approx. 31" x 3.2" x 3" (79 x 8 x 7.5 cm). One side is smooth while the other has carved ridges which show age and wear from use. It has a terrific, old, unrestored patina. In the 19th century, mangle boards were typically used to smooth wrinkles out of fabrics and to beat down woven fabric into a linen-type texture. They were also used for scrubbing clothes clean. This one has a nicely carved handle, rich coloring, and beautiful graining. Excellent for displaying on a wall, in a trencher, in a copper boiler or on a shelf!
