Description
[20956] (Japan).C. 1945 WWII era Group of 9 Original Photographic Images, Most Probably Hokkaido Japan with Crews Clearing Snow from Railways and Train Station.
9 Black and white photographs, no photographer or studio credited, no date however most probably circa 1945, at the time of the U.S. occupation after the Second World War; approx. 4" x 6" format; images show male and female workers, some in local costume, kimono and coolie hats, clearing snow from tracks and buildings, constructing pathways between structures and generally working diligently to move tons of snow by hand; snow is halfway up the telephone poles and absolutely covers some buildings completely, the snow easily reaching to second stories on buildings in the village shown; one building looks like there is approximately 10 feet of snow on top of it, being steadily shoveled off in layers; some edge, tips wear and a little creasing to the photo edges, one image with an old inkblot;
generally well-enough taken and interesting photographs in good condition.
