    Description

I'm pleased to offer this specimen of Pyrrhotite with Galena from the Nabob mine, Pinehurst, Shoshone County, Idaho. The specimen measures 2.05 x 1.89 x 1.96 inches or 5.21 x 4.80 x 4.97cm and is slightly magnetic owing to the pyrrhotite present in the specimen.
This is a virtually pure chunk of pyrrhotite with galena from this obscure locality. The Nabob mine was worked largely for lead, silver and zinc though some copper and gold were also produced. The mine was included in part of a massive Superfund Site and some remediation has taken place at the mine. A friend of mine collected this sample and his notes for the piece are as follows:
    Pyrrhotite, Galena
Nabob Mine, Pine Creek, Shoshone co, ID
The Nabob was a mainly lead mine on Pine Creek. It had more lead values than most in the area which were primarily zinc mines. This came from the dump of the old main tunnel, which has been partially reclaimed but still is mostly exposed.
The locality page for the Nabob mine on mindat.org was lacking specimen photos from this mine so I added a photo of this piece and also added the mineral galena to the list of minerals found at the mine. Lead is listed as a mineral here but this surely is an oversight--lead is not known from here and this is surely a reference to "lead ore" or galena.
