Vtg 1885 American Wringer Washer Washing Machine Agitator Hollywood Prop Museum
Overall, this 135+ year old primitive American Wringer washing machine system is in very good condition for its age. On the side with the handle, the side with the better writing on the lower right-hand corner in the last picture, you can see one piece of the wood is split & one screw has been replaced ... but is starting to back out. Other than that, all the hardware appears original/complete - but we are not experts, merely collectors. This is a very old washing machine. The rollers are worn and show what looks like crazing.
The entire unit stands about 48 inches in height. When opened up, it is about 48 inches across. The legs lock out with an ingenius brace made of iron/metal. Study photographs carefully. We are not experts by any means. This machine does appear to work. The gears move. The handle is in good shape. The rollers turn. And the height of the rollers - that is the space between them - does adjust on the top with the two large knobs/screws.
Please contact me with any questions. Thank you.
In 2017, on our way up from Florida through Georgia, we stopped at a lighthouse on the East Coast. The lighthouse, still in operation, also has a museum. A washing machine that I believe is identical to this one, was in that "museum." Great display piece!
We have the agitators (they look like 2 plungers with metal heads) available, and they can be purchased separately. They are currently not listed on eBay.)
While we do list a longer handling time, most orders are shipped in two or three business days. Large items often take longer to prepare; contact us if a specific shipping time is critical.
