    Description

    * Complex cluster of multiple octahedral Spinel crystals with good luster and shape from Amity, Warwick Twp. Orange Co. N.Y.  Classic old time American locality !
    * Specimen measures .8 x .6 x .5   inches. approx.
    * Historical note, Amity, Edenville, and Pine Island are small hamlets in Warwick, Orange Co. N.Y. with the distinction of having outcrops of Franklin marble with many wonderful collectable minerals! Edenite, Warwickite, & Clintonite were discovered here in the 1800's (type localities). Recently Fluoro-Edenite a beautiful fluorescent was found by a collector and identified by the NYS museum. Edenite, Norbergite and Diopside add to the list of great fluorescent minerals. The largest Spinels in the world are from here! Ilmenite, Chondrodite and Fosterite are associated. Amphiboles, Pyroxenes and Scapolite are found in large crystals. See Mineralogical Record V9 No.2 for article on Amity minerals, and my picture of the Amity NYS historical marker
